Not that I can bash on cynics, since I can be very cynical. I am just pointing out, that non-soccer fans can be very adamant that they cannot fathom why anyone would watch the sport. I understand, sure..., there are sports that I don't get, like cricket.
Here are some real comments from family and friends about me watching and following soccer:
"What are they cheering about? Nothing happened!" (This occurred when Real SL made an early match cross that just missed the goal.)
"How many people are there, besides you and your family?"
"Go to the game with you?, um..... I have a sock drawer to organize."
I really think it comes down to what you grow up with. I didn't grow up playing or watching cricket, hence I don't get it or like it. I didn't grow up watching soccer (since there were no games on) but I did play little league soccer. I was a fan of US soccer when it was shown, so when Real SL came to Salt Lake City, I became a fan and enjoy the games, even when they lose, which they did again last night.
I have no problem with non-soccer fans, mostly cause they are naive and unsophisticated Neanderthals, who can't appreciate "The Beautiful Game."
P.S. - It was unbelievable how many fans were at the Real SL game last night to watch Blanco. There were more fans for Cuauhtemoc Blanco than Real SL. He is a Mexican national team hero and did well, 1 goal and 1 assist.
